Можно  получить более подробную информацию по поводу сабжа? В англ. варианте написано про цену "значительно меньше" - ориентировочно какой порядок?

подробную информацию по поводу сабжа (в том числе по ценам) можно будет получить только после выхода оного. Это случится не ранее выхода версии 9.2. Т.е. где-то осенью-зимой.

Известно ли уже,  для редактирования тоже будет необходима лицензия ArcEditor?

Да, для редактирования данных в SDE всё равно нужен ArcEditor. Вы cможете сэкономить только на самом SDE.

Both ArcSDE Personal Edition and ArcSDE Workgroup Edition use Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 to store and serve multi-user geodatabases. SQL Server 2005 Express is a full-featured Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) that is now included with ArcGIS Desktop as an optional installation. Each SQL Server Express server can host multiple geodatabases and each geodatabase can store up to 4GB of data.

- ArcSDE Personal Edition is included at no extra cost if you have an ArcEditor or ArcInfo license. It can support up to 3 concurrent user connections of which one can be an editor user. This is designed for small teams and projects. - ArcSDE Workgroup Edition is a separately available low cost solution for small to medium sized teams and organziations and supports up to 10 simultaneous connections of which all 10 can be editor users.

ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 includes a separate Setup program for Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005.

Если ArcEditor и ArcSDE Ent. приблизительно одно ценовой категории, экономии особой и не получишь.

В смысле только Microsoft SQL Server и никаких других СУБД?

Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005. И возможно файловый SDE.
