Question
Is ArcGIS Desktop multi-threaded and/or does ArcGIS Desktop take advantage of multi-processor computers?
Answer
No; ArcGIS Desktop applications do not take advantage of multi-core/multi-processors in a single machine.
While ArcGIS applications do not take advantage of multiple processors, the operating system does. It moves many of the core OS processes to the second CPU allowing for faster response time within the ArcGIS Desktop applications, providing an overall performance boost.
