Привет!

Примерно год назад кто-то между делом обронил, что может программным путем обойти наличие единственного Layout-а в ArcGIS. Он еще жив?

Интересно, это правда или мечта?

Да, собственно, чего там программно - делаешь ленту "кадров" в Layout (поверх листа A3, например) когда надо, сдвигаешь все на лист и печатаешь. Все хотим скрипт сочинить, да лень - зачем, когда и так работает. Если уж сочинять, то надо хитрее - допустим, встроить эти "кадры" прямо в MapBook. Совместить кадры вида (обычно это листы карты) и кадры layout (обычно листы легенды).

Я тут лазил по американским скриптам и нашел мозаику листов карты:

правда работы сейчас много и проверять было некогда. Кто хочет может посмотреть сам.

This extension was designed using ArcGIS 8.3. The extension is designed to map large areas using a mosaic of map sheets. One of the primary differences between ArcView 3.x and ArcGIS 8.x is the limitation of having only one layout. Using this extension, a user can create a grid of map sheets and zoom to any of the sheets with the click of a mouse. The map sheet grid is stored as a series of graphics and therefore each grid is moveable. Also, the user can set the extension to print some or all of the map sheets with the click of a button. A documentation file has been included with the download and it is highly recommended that whoever downloads this extension reads it.

Update: Made the "Sheet No." function store the font size and location from the layout so that you don't need to remember the location.

Эт не совсем то. Те же функции, но с бОльшим успезом делает и стандартный ESRI-евский MapBook. Но используют они ОДИН layout. Вопрос обозначен достаточно точно - MultiLayout.
